What it is

Niacin, also known as Vitamin B3, is an essential water-soluble vitamin the body cannot produce in meaningful quantities on its own, meaning it must come from diet or supplementation. It's one of the more thoroughly studied B-vitamins, historically linked to preventing the deficiency disease pellagra.

How it works

Niacin is a direct precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), a coenzyme involved in hundreds of metabolic reactions, most notably the electron transport chain inside mitochondria — the process cells use to convert food into usable energy (ATP). Neurons are especially energy-demanding cells, making reliable NAD+ availability relevant to sustained mental stamina.

Why it's included in MemoHoney

While L-Arginine and L-Citrulline address blood flow, niacin addresses what happens once oxygen and nutrients actually arrive at a neuron: whether that cell has what it needs to generate energy efficiently. The two mechanisms are complementary rather than redundant.

Common forms

Niacin is available in several forms, including niacinamide and inositol hexanicotinate, each with different absorption and side-effect profiles. Standard nicotinic acid can cause a temporary, harmless "niacin flush" (skin warmth and redness) in some people at higher doses; formulations are often chosen specifically to minimize this at supplement-level amounts.

Safety notes

At high doses, niacin can affect liver enzymes and interact with certain medications, including some cholesterol-lowering drugs. Supplement-level doses used in products like MemoHoney are well below levels associated with those effects, but anyone with liver conditions or on relevant medications should check with a doctor first.
